THE SILK MEMORY

Silk cuckoo breeding has historically been a major economic activity in the villages of the region, and in the mid-19th century it practically disappeared and was replaced by mulberry trees – the plants on which the food is produced – by orange tree. This is why the Museum is contributing to the revival of this tradition in our towns, which is connected to a series of values related to knowledge and respect for the natural environment and the life of the people. Every year, the Museum raises more than a thousand silk worms to be distributed among the children that visit us with the school , or accompanied by their parents, after making the workshop or passing some tests that we propose.
